Cork Judge Says People Need To Be Protected When They Are Hitchhiking

Judge Sean O'Donnabhain says hitchhiking is legitimate way of getting about and says it needs to be protected

A Cork Judge says people need to be protected when they are hitch-hiking

Judge Sean O'Donnabhain made the comments as he jailed a 42 year old man who made sexual advances towards a 17 year old girl whom he picked up near Skibbereeen while she was hitchhiking home in March 2017.

Lithuianan national, Petras Petrikauskas from Newbridge Park, Skibbereen was sentenced to 18 months in jail with the last nine months suspended.

The Judge said he sees hitch-hiking as an innocent and legitimate way of getting about and says it needs to be protected
