Claims That The Upcoming Opening Of The Haulbowline Island Park Is Premature

Friends of the Irish Environment claim a 2017 report shows there is ongoing contamination of the harbour

The group claim that a report prepared for the County Council in 2017 and released under the Access to Information on the Environment shows ongoing contamination of Cork Harbour from the former Irish Steel plant.

The report states that arsenic, lead and PCBs from the former steel site may be ingested by visitors to the park at the East Tip through inhalation of dust and soil until the all-island surface clean-up for the remaining 11-hectares is completed.

Speaking to RedFM News Tony Lowes of the Friends of the Irish Environment is calling on the Council to publish the report
